An Arizona man has been charged with threatening to kill President Donald Trump. The man, identified as 51-year-old Jerrod Baum, allegedly made the threats in a series of phone calls to the White House.
According to court documents, Baum called the White House on multiple occasions and left threatening messages for the President. In one of the messages, Baum reportedly said, “I’m going to chop off your head and put it on your [expletive] chest, you understand me?” He also allegedly threatened to harm Trump’s family members.
Authorities were able to trace the calls back to Baum, who was arrested at his home in Tucson, Arizona. During a search of his residence, law enforcement found a cache of weapons, including handguns and rifles.
Baum has been charged with making threats against the President, which is a federal offense. If convicted, he could face up to five years in prison.
This incident is just the latest in a series of threats made against President Trump since he took office. While it is not uncommon for Presidents to receive threats, the Secret Service takes each one seriously and investigates them thoroughly.
President Trump has been the target of numerous threats and acts of violence throughout his time in office. In 2017, a man was arrested for attempting to assassinate the President at a rally in Las Vegas. And just last year, a Florida man was arrested for sending pipe bombs to several prominent Democrats, including former President Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton.
Threats against any President are a serious matter and are not taken lightly. The Secret Service works tirelessly to ensure the safety and security of the President and his family. In cases like this, where an individual is making direct threats against the President, swift action is taken to apprehend the suspect and prevent any harm from coming to the Commander-in-Chief.
As the case against Jerrod Baum moves forward, it serves as a reminder of the dangers that public officials face on a daily basis. Threats of violence and acts of aggression have no place in our society, and those who engage in such behavior will be held accountable for their actions.
